Aracruz Celulose created the Watershed Project in
1993 in order to study eucalyptus trees and
how they interact with the native Atlantic Forest
reserves and the environment in a 286-hectare
area located in the municipality of Aracruz,
Espírito Santo.
In this area, which reproduces
the different forest environments that the company
operates, a complete eucalyptus cultivation
cycle is environmentally monitored. Furthermore,
studies on biodiversity, water resources, eco-physiology
and soil conditions are conducted.
The Watershed Project has generated
an important database containing scientific
information about the eucalyptus tree. This
data has allowed Aracruz to continuously improve
its forestry management procedures. The information
was gathered and published in December 2002
in a CD ROM aimed at the scientific and academic
communities. Part of this material is available
on this Web site. Click on the accompanying
menu to learn more about the Project.

Project and the latest results of Aracruz's environmental
activities, visit our Sustainability Report here.
